In a major blow for Belgium, Jeremy Doku is out for the match against Iran this Sunday, which is part of the second round of the World Cup group stage, due to a respiratory issue.

The Belgium winger is suffering a relapse of the respiratory infection that had already troubled him during the squad’s very first training session in Seattle.

Although he travelled with the rest of the group to Los Angeles, where the Red Devils will play their second group match against Iran, Doku remained sidelined and did not train on the eve of this crucial encounter.

At a press conference, Rudi Garcia gave an update on his health: "The situation is clearly improving, but Jeremy was still bothered by this respiratory problem. He hasn’t been at his best since these issues appeared a few days ago."

Focus on New Zealand

According to Le Soir, the Belgian medical staff does not want to take any risks with the Manchester City player. Currently on antibiotics, the goal is to fully recover so he can compete for a starting spot next Saturday against New Zealand.

In the meantime, Garcia will have to rethink his attacking plans to break through the Iranian defence on Sunday.
