Aalborg Handball will face Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Magdeburg and Fuchse Berlin meet in the other semi-final. That was the result of Tuesday's draw.
According to former Danish international goalkeeper Niklas Landin, it wasn't the best outcome of the draw.
"I knew it would be a difficult opponent. We are looking forward to a great weekend and a great game against Barcelona. We knew that we would face the best teams when we played the Final 4."
"We have to play to our best for two days. It is not always the biggest favorite that wins. You have seen that many times", said Niklas Landin in connection with the draw.
The two semi-finals will also be a repeat of the past two years' finals in the prestigious European club tournament. In 2024, Aalborg faced Barcelona in the final of the Champions League as the Spaniards prevailed.
Barcelona has won the Champions League a total of 11 times, which is a record. Aalborg is yet to win the tournament.
The other purely German semi-final is a meeting between last season's Champions League finalists.
A year ago, Magdeburg, with Danes Magnus Saugstrup and Michael Damgaard in the squad, won the final over Fuchse Berlin, who fielded Mathias Gidsel and Lasse Andersson.
In addition to last season's triumph, Magdeburg also won the Champions League in 2023, while Füchse Berlin have never won the tournament.
The Champions League's Final 4 event takes place on 12 and 13 June in Cologne, Germany.
